  • Katzenjammer: hangover; distress, depression, or confusion resembling that caused by a hangover; a discordant clamor
    • Sentence Example: The taxi driver tried to cure his katzenjammer with aspirin.
    • Synonym: babel, blare, bluster, bowwow, brawl, bruit [archaic], cacophony, chatter, clamor, clangor, a decibel(s), din, discordance, noise, racket, rattle, roar
    • Antonym: quiet, silence, silentness, still, stillness

  • Veritable: being, in fact, the thing named and not false, unreal, or imaginary — often used to stress the aptness of a metaphor
    • Sentence Example: It's a veritable hardware store of saw blades, pickaxe blades, trowels, and awls.
    • Synonym: authentic, classic, genuine, real
    • Antonym: doubtful, dubious, equivocal, qualified, questionable, restricted, uncertain

  • Cubit: any of various ancient units of length based on the length of the forearm from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger and usually equal to about 18 inches (46 centimeters)
    • Sentence Example: Its dimensions are given as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits broad and 30 cubits high. 

  • Thole: endure
    • Sentence Example: You've just got to thole it because the clouds might disappear and suddenly you'll be busy.

  • Despot: a ruler with absolute power and authority; one exercising power tyrannically: a person exercising absolute power in a brutal or oppressive way; a Byzantine emperor or prince; a bishop or patriarch of the Eastern Orthodox Church; an Italian hereditary prince or military leader during the Renaissance
    • Sentence Example: God is to him an absolute despot, who declares a thing right or wrong from no inherent necessity but by his arbitrary fiat.
    • Synonym: Caesar, dictator, f├╝hrer (or fuehrer), oppressor, pharaoh, strongman, tyrannizer, tyrant
    • Antonym: commoner; Democrats; exponent

  • Parthian: of, relating to, or characteristic of ancient Parthia or its people; relating to, being, or having the effect of a shot fired while in real or feigned retreat.
    • Sentence Example: The Parthian king Arsaces was attacked by Antiochus III.

  • Opusculum: a minor work (as of literature) — usually used in plural
    • Sentence Example: I initially use terms as they are given in the opusculum.
    • Synonym: title; production;writing; work; novel
