Parts of Speech - Pronoun


A pronoun is a word that is used that can be used as a substitute for Noun. They can be called as a subclass for noun as they can sometimes replace a noun. In Hindi, Pronoun is called Sarvanam.

Example of Pronoun:

Noun- Sita likes to dance.

Pronoun- She likes to dance. ( here the word Sita which is a noun, is replaced by She which is a pronoun.)

Noun- Children should study well.

Pronoun- They should study well. ( here the word Children which is a noun, is replaced by They which is a pronoun.)

Types of Pronoun:

Personal Pronoun:

Person Pronoun refers to a person, a thing or a group. The personal pronoun is the most common pronoun used in English. A personal pronoun can work as either subject or object of the verb or preposition, just like a noun.

Difference between Pronoun and Noun:

The basic difference between pronoun and noun is:

  • Pronoun does not use articles before them i.e a, an or the.
  • Pronoun does not use adjectives before them.
