Generally, addition is very simple but some times you want to do it faster so it could save your time in exams like SSC, IBPS, RRB, CAT or any competitive exam. So we give you some tips and tricks for addition by Vedic maths which will save you time in any exam.

Method 1:

Use of complementary numbers

Complementary Numbers: If the sum of two numbers is 10 then those two numbers are said to be complementary.

Example:

  • 1 + 9 = 10 (here 1 and 9 are complementary to each other)
  • 2 + 8 = 10 (here 2 and 8 are complementary to each other)

and so on.

Technique:

See those set of numbers which will result in a round number. Rearrange those number accordingly and then add.

Example1:

  •  17 + 39 + 484 + 36 + 31 + 23
Step 1: Observe those set of numbers which will result in a round number. Here 17 and 23, 39 and 31,484 and 36 give a round number as a result.

Step 2: Rearrange the numbers according to the pair

17 + 23 39 + 31 484 + 36

= 40 + 70 + 520

= 630

Example 2:
  • 49 + 52 + 5 + 21 + 13
Here 49 and 21 gives a rounded number result and 52, 5 and 13 gives a rounded number result. After rearranging we get

49 + 2152 + 5 + 13

=70 + 70

=140

Method 2:

Splitting the numbers

Example:

  • 49 = 50-  1
  • 73 = 70 + 3
  • 684 = 600 + 80 + 4

Technique:

Splitting the numbers into smaller parts to make the calculation easier.

Example:
  • 49 + 73
= 50 - 1 + 70 + 3

=120 + 3 - 1

=122

  • 578 + 284 + 163
500 + 70 + 8 + 200 + 80 +4 + 100 + 60 + 3

= 800 + 210 + 15

= 1025
